PICKENS, ARTHUR LINWOOD, 92, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 22, 2017.

He was born July 27, 1925 in Dumas, Mississippi. He was the oldest of four chil- dren born to Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Columbus Pickens. His family later moved to May- field, Kentucky where he met and married his first love, Martha Breckenridge Allen.

In 1960, they moved their family to Louisville to begin his own electrical manufacturer represen- tative business. A.L. Pickens Company is still operating today. He served his country during World War II in the Army Air Corps as a flight instructor and this is where his lifelong passion for flying began. He was able to use his favor- ite plane, the Beechcraft Bonanza, not only for business, but also for pleasure with his family.

Bowman Field became his second home. His greatest legacy, first and foremost, was love for his family. Family meant everything to him in all that he did. His parents, Mr. and Mrs.

Arthur Columbus Pickens and his brothers Bill Pickens and Dr. George E. Pickens preceded him in death. He is survived by his sister Margaret Ste- venson (Roger), daughters Jane Booker (Sam), Susan Simpson (Richmond), six grandchildren who adored him Ned (Kate), Storey (David), Breck (Alexandra), Blair (Dustin), Andrew (Ka- tie), and Maclin. He was also blessed with six great-grandchildren Emery, Grayson, Winston, Cecilia, Caroline and Baylor.

He also leaves be- hind his dear companion Joan Kamman. A memorial service will be held noon Friday, September 29, 2017 at St. Francis in the Fields Episcopal Church with a reception immediately following in Graves Hall. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Memorial Scholarship Fund at St. Francis in the Fields Episcopal Church.

UPHOLD, NADINE AREATTA, 81, of Louisville was born on March 26, 1936 in Portland, to the late Earl and Caroline (Scott) Hewitt and passed from this life on Sep- tember 25, 2017. Nadine was a retired Certified Nursing Assistant for Spaid Nursing Service. In addition to her par- ents she was also preceded in death by her hus- band, Melvin Uphold; a son, David Uphold; and a daughter, Debra Wright.

Left to cherish her memory is her sons, Michael Uphold and Stephen Uphold (Vickie); a daughter Diane Sermon (Eddie); granddaughter Tiffany Mont- gomery (Joshua); grandson, Donnie Uphold; brother, Scott Hewitt; half-brothers, Clarence and James Van Buren; half-sister, Georgia Wil- liams; 6-grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren. He was the son of W.

Henry and Cas- sandra Veech. Robert was a graduate of the University of Louis- ville School of Law, earning a Juris Doctor Degree. He became the mayor of the City of Plantation from 1960-1964 and Judge of the City of Plantation from 1964-1977. He served as secretary and treasurer of St. Matthews Li- ons Club, president of St.

Matthews Commu- nity Center, president of Louisville Claims Council and president of Louisville Committee. Robert was involved in various civic activi- ties within his community, participating in vari- ous positions including Chairman of the Board of Watkins Memorial United Methodist Church. Robert was a Master Mason having been a member of Willis Stewart Lodge for 72 years, a decorated military veteran of World War II. He became a member of the Veitch Historical Society in 1978 and became president from 2001-2003. He is survived by his loving wife Lucille, son Michael Veech, son Larry Veech and his wife Cheryl, stepson Kevin S.

Ray and wife Amanda, granddaughter Laura Leigh Clay and husband Chris, and great-grandson Garand. He is also survived by his two sisters Katherine Games and Sarah Veech Schweitzer and seven nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, September 30, 2017, in the chapel of Arch L. Heady Son Westport Village, 7410 Westport Road, with interment to follow with military honors at Grove Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville, KY.

Wol- ford, M.D., born on June 25, 1925, died on September 23, 2017, at the Mayo Clinic Hospital in Jackson- ville, Florida. Dr. Wolford is survived by his wife of 67 years, Mary R. Wolford. He had seven children, Mary Jo Gleason (John F.

Gleason de- ceased); Janie Wolford; John L. Wolford, M.D. (Elizabeth); Thomas L. Wolford, M.D. (Caryn Vorster); Annie Licandro (deceased); Sara Porter (D.

Whayne Porter); and Robert W. Wolford, M.D. (Candace). Dr. Wolford also is survived by 18 grandchildren and 18 great- grandchildren.

Dr. Wolford was a veteran of World War II. He served in the Army Medical Corps from 1944 to 1946 in the European Theater of Opera- tions. Dr. Wolford graduated from Saint Louis University School of Medicine and was a fel- low in cardiology at the Mayo Clinic Roches- ter, Minnesota.

For over 40 years, he practiced medicine in Louisville, Kentucky. Since mov- ing to Jacksonville in 2008, Dr. Wolford wrote and published three memoirs about his early life and medical career. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 28, 2017, at St.

Catholic Church, 435 1st Avenue North, Jacksonville Beach, FL 32250. On September 30, 2017, a private interment will be held at Cal- vary Cemetery in Louisville, Kentucky. SHELBYVILLE ETHINGTON, LEE MICHAEL, Lee Michael Ethington, aged 41, passed away peace- fully on Sunday, Sep- tember 24, 2017, at Baptist Hospital East in Louisville, Ken- tucky and surrounded by his devoted family. Lee was born on June 5, 1976 to Linda and Larry Ethington of Shelbyville. Lee and his sister, Lori Ethington of Simpsonville, spent most of their childhood summers at the Shelbyville Country Club with countless friends.

Lee graduated from Shelby County High School and studied at University of Kentucky before returning to Shelbyville to work for his business, Ethington Building Supply. Following the death of his beloved father Larry in 2008, Lee left the family business and fulfilled his life- long dream of becoming a successful developer and builder of custom homes in the Shelbyville area. On October 12, 2002, Lee married the love of his life April Ethington in Gatlinburg, Ten- nessee. They ran several successful businesses together as a team and brought three beautiful children into this world. oldest daughter, Krysta Lyn Ethington, is a recent honors gradu- ate of Martha Layne Collins High School in Shelbyville.

Lee was ecstatic this fall when she began her freshman year at the University of Kentucky, home of his cherished Wildcats. Lee was exceptionally proud of Krysta and loved watching her play volleyball over the years. Scarcely a winter weekend went by that Lee was not traveling to one of her games. oldest son, Bailey Michael Ethington, is nine 9 years old and is whipsmart like his father and contem- plative like April. Lee enjoyed taking him to boyscouts and fishing.

Finally, youngest son Micah Lee Ethington is just five (5) years old and the spitting image of his father. Micah inherited boundless energy and attention to detail. Of all his accomplishments, Lee was most proud of his beautiful family. Lee was preceded in death by his father, Larry Wilson Ethington and first cousin, Paige Ethington Hardy, of New York. He is survived by his wife, April Ethington, daughter Krysta, sons Bailey and Micah all of Shelbyville; mother Linda K.

Ethington, Shelbyville; sister Lori Lynne Ethington, Simp- sonville; several treasured nieces, nephews, and cousins. Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM Friday, September 29, 2017, at Southeast Christian Church. Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Thursday at the Shannon Funeral Home. Burial will be in Grove Hill Cemetery.
