ZELLAR, JERRY 49, of Ne A lbany, passed awa Tuesday, February 14, 2006 at Universit Hospital. He was a 1974 graduate of St. Xavier High School and a 1978 graduate of Bellarmine University. He was a probation officer for the Kentucky Department of Corrections and the owner and operator of DJ Entertainment Business. SOMERSET JOPLIN, ALICE SUMMERS 75 passed away Sunday, February 12, 2006, in enice, FL, after a brie illness. Mrs. Joplin was a resident of Venice and Somerset. Born in Louisville, KY, on July 24, 1930, she as the daughter of the late Gertrude and Addis K. Summers.

She attended Centre College and graduated from the University of Louisville. She was married to the late George A. Joplin III, for 38 years. Mrs. Joplin joined her husband in publishing The Commonwealth- Journal, until they sold the newspaper in 1988.

Mrs. Joplin was a member and deacon at First Presbyterian Church in Somerset. She was an emeritus trustee of Centre College, a member of the Kentucky Leadership Networ and Somerset Garden Club and past-president of Hopkins PTA. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sarah Hamilton Joplin. Mrs.

Joplin was the proud mother of Jane Joplin Evans (Jack), George A. Joplin I (Nina) and John Summers Joplin (Jennifer); she was most proud her seven grandsons, David George Evans, John Richard Evans, Matthew James Evans, George A. (Adam) Joplin Brent Michael Joplin, Christopher Wesley Joplin and Benj amin Addis Joplin. She is also survived by her longtime companion, F.B. Groff, and their dog, Harvey.

He was born March 6, 1910 in Philadelphia, PA and graduated from Penn State University in 1930 with a degree in electrical engineering. During his long life, A rt worked at man obs, but the one which gave him the most satisfaction was teaching mathematics. He loved music and played saxa- phone and clarinet and added his wonderful tenor voice to several choirs.

Over the years, A rt was a good athlete and especially enjoyed tennis, swimming and hiking. He was at home in the outdoors, fond native plants and trees and was a tireless organic gardener. He found great pleasure in helping other people and carried his tool box and his general nature herever he went. He and his wife, Virginia Porter McVickar, ere married 66 years and lived in PA, FL and NC, making friends and becoming active in community life wherever they lived. The moved to Corydon, IN in 2003 to be near family.

Art was a member A sheville (NC) Friends Meeting. He was preceded in death by his son, John Carle McVickar; his brothers, Paul and David McVickar; and his sister, Marian McVickar. Besides his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Gwen M. McMahon and son-in-law, And McMahon; daughter, Jean McVickar and daughter-in-law Linda A McVickar; brother- in-law, Carle D. Porter; sisters-in-law, Reat McVickar, Esther McVickar and Alice Penza; grandchildren, Jesse Ridge (Angie), Erin M.

Garney (Todd), Brian McVickar (Am Benton), Meridith McVickar (Marty Glass), Molly McMahon and A aron McMahon; one great-grandchild and one on the way; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
