Herbert Anderson, a versatile movie and stage actor who was best known as the owlish father of television's "Dennis the Menace," died Saturday. He was 77. Anderson died in his sleep at his home in Palm Springs. Anderson, a native of Oakland, acted in a number of Broadway, television and movie roles, but he was best known as Henry Mitchell from the 1959-1963 CBS series.

Anderson retired in 1982 following heart surgery and moved to Palm Springs in 1985. Anderson said he and his TV wife, Gloria Henry, read "Dennis Lexington columnist Sue Wahlgren dies at 70 From AP and Special Dispatches LEXINGTON, Ky. Sue Ann Fenimore Wahlgren, a longtime society columnist for the Lexington Herald-Leader, died Friday at University of Kentucky Hospital after an illness. She was 70. Her first column appeared in 1946, but she left the paper for WLAP radio a year later.

She returned to the newspaper in 1958 and held several positions before retiring in 1989. However, she continued to write a Sunday column until she became ill last month. She was one of the first women to report on University of Kentucky basketball for WLAP radio. She graduated from University High School and the University of Kentucky, where she discovered journalism at UK's student newspaper, the Kentucky Kernel. Sunday at Audubon Regional Medical Center.

He was a native of Millwood, a retired paint shop employee for Ford Motor Co. and a member of Shawnee Baptist Church and Parkland Masonic Lodge 638. Survivors: a daughter, Jane Goodlett of Springfield, Ohio; two stepsons, Talmadge Albritton of Georgia and Dewey Albritton; several grandchildren; and greatgrandchildren. "For any number of people, Sue Wahlgren and the Lexington Herald-Leader were synonymous," said editor Timothy Kelly. "That's not just because of her column, but because of her knowledge of the community, its citizens and its ways. Sue was a journalist through and through." Wahlgren was known for her sense of humor and sometimes covered formal society events like the Lexington Ball wearing her trademark floppy hat and sneakers. She was a member of Christ Church Cathedral, Idle Hour Country Club, Iroquois Hunt Club and the Thoroughbred Club of America. Her late husband was John Reed Wahlgren.

Her survivors include: a daughter, Marian R. Wahlgren of Lexington, and a sister, Polly Sullivan of Rancho Sante Fe, Calif. Ernest Clayton Likens, 95, died A 22-year-old Jeffersontown man died early yesterday when his car ran into a ditch and hit a culvert in the 2300 block of Plantside Drive. Kerry Alton "Bubba" Goodall Jr. died instantly, shortly after 4:30 a.m., Jeffersontown police said.

He was alone in the car, police said. The accident is still under investigation, police said. Goodall was a warehouseman for CFM Distributors a bouncer at Kelly's Lounge, an Army veteran of Desert Storm and a member of the 223rd Military Police Company of the Kentucky Army National Guard. His survivors include his wife, the former Misty Hammond; a daughter, Karri M. Goodall; a son, Tristan M.

Goodall; his father and step- McCreary woman falls from car, dies From Staff and Special Dispatches PINE KNOT, Ky. A McCreary County woman died about 1:30 a.m. yesterday after she fell out of a car. Mary A. Strunk, 51, died of multiple injuries after the car's door flew open as the car rounded a curve on Ky.

478 and she fell out, state police said. The car's driver, William Myers, 23, also of Pine Knot, stopped, put Strunk back into his car and took her to a relative's house, where she was pronounced dead. She was a native of Fidelity and a homemaker. Her survivors include two sons, Jerry and James Strunk of Pine Knot; three daughters, Patricia Diane Tucker of Whitley City, Mary Alice Warf of Stearns and Linda Susan Davis of Pine Knot; and 12 grandchildren. The funeral will be at 2 p.m.

tomorrow at McCreary County Funeral Home, with burial in McCreary County Memorial Gardens, Whitley City. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. today. Body of man, 33, retrieved from lake From Staff and Special Dispatches BRUIN, Ky. The body of a Sandy Hook man who disappeared Saturday while trying to swim across Grayson Lake was found yesterday.

Marlon Hugh Whitley, 33, and another man were four-wheeling when their vehicle bogged down in mud about 6 p.m. Saturday. The two men tried to swim across the lake for help, using coolers as floats. Police say Whitley fell off his cooler and never resurfaced. Rescue squads from Greenup, Carter and Elliott counties looked for the body until midnight Saturday.

They resumed the search yesterday morning and finally found Whitley's body shortly afjter 1 p.m. manager of staffing for Louisville Gas Electric a member of the boards of directors for Volunteers of America, Big BrothersBig Sisters of Kentuckiana and Seven Counties Services and a member of 100 Black Men. Survivors: his wife, the former Mindi Vander Wal; a daughter, Daphne Sanks; two stepsons, Brian Wilson of San Bernadino, and Jan Wilson of Orange County, his mother, Mary Snelling of Columbus; three brothers, Robert Sanks of Washington, D. and Joker and Richard Sanks, both of Columbus; three sisters, Margert Harris, Cardell Jackson and Mattie P. Norris, all of Columbus; and a grandchild.
