Several chose the play; others were in charge of programs. Many took turns painting a backdrop of Merry Mouse Meadow, while some were assigned to sit in on all the activities as class reporters. While some of the actors rehearsed the Three Blind Mice song, reporter Philip Macklin recorded his observations. 1. Some of the kids are playing a game on stage.

2. Some of the teachers are talking to them. 3. They are talking about a lion. April 21 at Kosair members of the women's division will take a tour of the hospital at 9:30.

"Then have a seat in the front row." 1 The actors were 15 fourth graders about to go into orbit with "The Mouse That Soared," a one-act play about a mouse who goes up in a rocket.

And the "flight" was the culmination of a three-week drama project set up at the school by the drama committee of the Louisville section of the National Council of Jewish Women. Somewhat of a disciplinary problem in class, he sat on the floor and didn't move during the whole playlet Later one of the fourth-grade teachers, Miss Lucille Martin, gave verbal applause to the program. In her class she noticed "evidence of growth in several parts of language-arts skills." Some of the children lost some of their shyness from their production responsibilities or from acting on a stage.

And drama-committee chairman Mrs. Abrams was delighted with the zest of the performers. With such a brief time to put the play together, "I don't know who to be prouder of the kids or the volunteers." The group plans to continue the program next year, hopefully in four or five schools. I 7 Wearing eye shadow and lipstick was half the fun for the fourth graders, including Darlene Wade, above with Mrs. Joseph Marcus.
