Jeffersonville upset "Richmond 56-42, at Jeff Ficldhouse, while Coach "Bud" Bruner's Army Champs topped the Guards 71-60 at New Albany High Gym. Flashing the same brand of firewagon ball which netted them the Second Army title last week, Bruner's Soldiers outscored the Guards' stellar scoring combination of Charley Ruter, Bob Meador and Bucky Schuler and beat them at their own game.

Coach Ike Reynolds' Legionnaires jumped ahead of Richmond at the start, and they never let up until sure of victory in the fourth frame. Gene Rhodes, Andy Collins and Bill Wattier spiked the Guards and sparked the Soldiers. Rhodes poured in 23 points, Collins ripped the mesh for 15 and Wattier 16, to say nothing of Andy's brilliant defensive team work with Bill Ivukoy. New Albany led 17-10 at the quarter, only to see Ft. Knox ahead 31-25 following a red-hot second quarter.

The Soldiers won out in the third period 55-45. as the Guards took scoring honors in the final setto. Led by Earl "Burr" Herdt, watch charm guard, who pitched in 20 points, the younger Legionnaires out ran their old opponents from the River Road. Bob Shumakcr put Capehart on the score board with a long and Lee Huber tied the score. Walt Schlosser and Herdt hit quick baskets and the Lesion set a pace that had Richmond hanging on the ropes.

At one time in the second period, the Legion led 32-12. Jeff stopped at 40-27 for the three quarters, and pulled up towards the last, Richmond was off in its shooting and only Bill Gates, who scored 14 points and Knobby Walsh, with 10, were near par.
