28A lllSUNDAY, MAY 17, 2015 KY THE COURIER-JOURNALlll DEATHS 85, Captain, Supply Corps, USN of Olney, MD, died on Sunday, May 10, 2015, He was the beloved husband of the late Patricia Ann Johnson. Survivors include his daughter Laura Ann (Gerald) Scheid and Susan Lynn Johnson, both of San Diego, CA; three grandchildren, Justin and Rachel Scheid and Joseph Rhyss Johnson; four sisters and three brothers. Captain Johnson enlisted in the Navy in 1947 as a high school dropout and retired in 1989 after 42 years of service. Following commissioning as an ensign in 1958 he served in various assignments oat, ashore and abroad in the areas of logistics planning. He attended the Naval Postgraduate School and the Naval War College.

Decorations include the Joint Service Commendation Medal and the Meritorious Service Medal the latter being awarded for his efforts in continuing continued fuel support of the eet during the 1973-1974 embargo while serving as fuels cer on the staff of the Fleet Commander. He late serve as Commander, Defense Fuel Region Europ and was serving as Commander of the Fu el Region at the time of his retirement. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8pm Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at Hines- Rinaldi Funeral Home, 11800 New Hampshire Avenue, Silver Spring, MD. Graveside service and Interment with full military honors at a late date at Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of owers, donation may be made to the St.

Jude Research Hospital. (www.stjude.org) MASON JOAN MARY WESTON 98, passed away peacefully with family by her side on May 9, 2015 at Friendship Health Rehab in Pewee Valley, KY. She was the former Joan Mary Weston Clements, born in Secunderabad, India, to Major and Mrs. George W. Clements.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard E.A. Mason; and a son, Michael R.A. Mason (Amparo). She is survived by her children, Stephen G.A. Mason, Angela Katherine Horner (Keith) and Victoria Louise Wadley (Gary).

Granny was also blessed with 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She served as a nurse in the British Royal Air Force during World Wa II. She loved God and the Catholic Church, and she loved her family ercely. Granny was known to say, is the most importan and occasionally, when surrounded by her family, this is what I call Thank you, Granny, for showing us how to live and love. We love you.

A memorial service will be held to celebrate life on Sunday, June 7, 2015 at 2 p.m. a St. Aloysius Catholic Church, in the chapel, a 212 Mt. Mercy Pewee Valley, KY, 40056. Expressions of sympathy may be made in the form of donations to Little Sisters of the Poor.

85, passed away Wednesday, May 13, 2015. He was a retired employee at International Harvester, a member of Greate Salem Baptist Church and an Army veteran. He is survived by his wife, Ida Mathis; host of children and grandchildren; sisters, Margaret Dillard and Willie Garrett. Visitation Tuesday 11am noon at his church, 1009 W. Chestnut St.

Dorris was born to John Bertram Harmon and Mary Doris Hellne Harmon in Carmi, Illinois, on the 22nd July 1924. The Harmon family moved to Louisville when Dorr is was ve. She graduated from high school in Louisville, Kentucky and attended the University of Lousville.

Early in life, Dorris developed an enduring faith in the Lord and a commitment to serving others. In October 1944, she married the love of her life, Andrew Jackson Maynard, who was also from Louisville. In 1948, the couple moved to Houston, Texas, where they raised three children and were active in the First United Methodist Church. All who were blessed to know Dorris will remem- er her as a lady of grace and personal warmth with a touch of sass and spunk. She pursued excellence in all facets of life, serving the Lord, her family, her friends and her community with all her heart and soul.

A beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she will be truly missed. Dorris was preceded in death by her hus- and, Andrew Jackson Maynard; son, Jac Reed Maynard; and grandson, Gage Hall. She is survived by her daughters, Terri Chadwell Angie Hall, and daughter-in-law, Evie Maynard; brother, Jack Harmon; sisters, Lois Potee and Judy Miller; seven grandchildren; and three great- grandchildren. Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, the 19th of May, in the parlor and grand foyer of Geo.

H. Lewis Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston. The memorial service is to be conducted a 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, the 20th of May 2015, in the sanctuary of First Methodist Church Houston, 1320 Main Street, where Dr. Stephen P.

Wende, Senior Pastor, and Allen Houk, will ciate. Following the service, all are invited to greet the family during a reception in the foyer of the church. Prior to the service, the family will have gathered for a private interment a Houston National Cemetery. MCALLISTER SUZANNE MARIE 63, passed away May 10, 2015 MCCOMIS GARY DALE 75, died May 15, 2015, Evergreen Funeral Home. 64, husband to the late Leslie Maggard Romines, passed away on Thursday May 14, 2015 at Jewish Hospital. He was born to the late Lester W. and Geraldine Kellems Romines in eld, KY on May 2, 1951. He is also preceded in death by a sister Phynelaphy Donna Jean Shaw.

Gerald retired from General Electric and was a Vietnam Army veteran. He is survived by three sisters, Susan Gray (Tony), Sharon Roberts, (Steve) and Kathy Abell (William); best friend Larry Sizemore and several nieces and nephews. And he will be missed by his fuzzy friends, Jack and Loki. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. at Louisville Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 4400 Dixie Highway.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 10 a.m. until time of service a the funeral home. She was preceded in death by her parents Roy C.

and Irma Belle Sagabiel Frey and he husband Edward L. Russell. She is survived by her daughter and son in law Cynthia and Dr. Steve Lipson. Kitty graduated from New Albany High School in 1940 and then attended of L.

She was a former member of Rock Creek Garden Club and River Road Country Club. She was a member of Beargrass Christian Church. A graveside service will be held 10 am Wednesday at Fairview Cemetery, 800 East 6th Street, New Albany, IN. entrusted with local arrangements. We greatly appreciated the many kind people that helped take care of Kitty the past few years.

78, of Louisville, passed away Wednesday, May 13, 2015 a Norton Hosparus Pavilion. Barbara was born to the late Jesse and Sarah Estelle Mulnix in Kansas City, MO. She will be remembered for her fun-loving spirit and larger than life personality. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Jimmy Teller; and sister, Betty Nelson. Survivors include her son, Jon Kohler (Heather); sister, Bonnie Armour; grandchildren, Jenna Kohler and Graham Teller; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service in celebration of her life will be 4 p.m. Monday at Ratterman and Sons, 10600 Taylorsville Road. The family will receive guests for a memorial visitation following the service until 8 p.m. Monday. Memorial contributions may take the form donation to Hosparus.

Paul is survived by wife Pamela; daughters, Rebecca (Derreck) Keith, Jennifer (Daniel) Riley; and son, Gregory (Kate); grandchildren, Clara, Gavin and Matthew; plus step-father, Irvin Neal; and brothers, Gary Sapoff and Mar Neal. A native of Lansing, MI, she was preceded in death by her husband James A. Schaefer, her parents Robert John and Margaret Loehe Droste, brother Robert U. Droste and infant sister Ann. She is survived by her loving children, daughters, Mona Smith (Tony) and Peggy Hirsch (John) and sons, James G. (Dorothy), Thomas P.

(Tonya), R. Daniel (Alicia) and Jeffrey L. (Ronda); 14 grandchildren, Kenny and Ronny Smith, Rebecca Kueber (Chris) and John and Patrick Hirsch, Molly Tevis-Orona and Kimberly Gerhardt (Jason), Jacob, Samantha and Grace Schaefer, Benjamin and Hannah Schaefer, Delaney and Jeremy Schaefer. She is also survived by three great-grandchildren, Mary Jane Tevis-Orona and Adelyn and Austin Gerhardt, twins due August 2015; two brothers James and Jerry Droste (Annette) both Lansing; and two brothers-in-law, Leo Schaefe (Shirley) and Robert Schaefer (Carol). Her Memorial Mass will be celebrated a 11 a.m.

June 12, 2015 at St. Barnabas Catholic Church, 3042 Hikes Lane, where she was a longtime member. The family will receive friends at 10 a.m. prior to the Mass in the vestibule. SHAWLER BEN 75, passed away on May 15, 2015, surrounded by his loving and devoted family. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Ben was born in Louisville and after graduating from Eastern High School, he attended Centre College and graduated from the University of Louisville. After college graduation, Ben oined the U.S. Army serving three years in the Security Service.

After duty to his country was served, Ben oined the Christian, Brown and Rufer accounting rm, becoming partner before their merge with Ernst Young. Ben dedicated his mentoring and motivating personality to the Entrepreneurial Services Group where he made a cant impact on the professional lives many retiring after 43 years. Post Partnership retirement, Ben continued to share his wealth of knowledge as the Divisional Director, Technology Support services. Within that group, Ben was considered by many as the father the rms IT Technology consulting family. Ben was the visionary for that group covering Canada and the United States for ten years.

In the next chapter of his life, which Ben referred to as Ben spent his time continuing his innate mentoring for family and friends especially young adults. Ben guided, motivated and supported each through thei coll ege years and career choices. All of whom hold a great love, affection and respect for Ben. In spare time, he enjoyed shing, golf and traveling the world with his wife, Linda. He was also a cient supervisor and director of all things.

Preceding Ben in death are his parents, William Sr. and Lettie Shawler, and brother William Jr. Remaining to cherish his memory are his loving and dedicated wife, Linda Riddle Shawler, children: Brian Shawler of Nashville, TN, Ashley Dudgeon and Hayden Shawler, both of Louisville. Sister, Sue Wright of Louisville. We will celebrate life with visitation on Sunday, May 17, 2015 from 1-5 pm.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 18, 2015 at 10 am. Both to be held at 149 Breckenridge Lane. In lieu of owers, the family requests memorial gifts to of Ben be sen to Autism Society of 4340 East West Highway, Suite 350, Bethesda, MD 20814. 65, died at home surrounded by his loved ones. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Kathy his children, Nikki (Bill) Abbott, Amy (Kyle) Boss, Michael (Jessica) Smith, and Katie (Joe) Lincoln; siblings: Bobby G.

(Annette) Smith, Barbara L. Connors, Brenda K. (David) Lurding and Philip B. (Debbie) Smith; and his sister in-law Anne Smith. He was a loving grandfather to Nicolas Vires and Kayla Abbott, Zoey Boss, Gabrielle and Silas Smith, and Jacob and Avery Lincoln.

Michael is preceded in death by his parents, James and Kathleen Smith, his brothers, James M. Smith, Jr. and David B. Smith He graduated from St. Xavier High School and Jefferson Community College before serving in the Kentucky National Guard.

Mike retired from Ford Motor Co. and enjoyed working at Auto Parts. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday, May 18, 2015 at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, 2040 Buechel Ban Road, Louisville, KY.

Guests are invited to attend a visitation from 3-8 p.m. on Sunday, May 17, 2015 at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven, 4400 Bardstown Road. Entombment will follow a Resthaven Memorial Park. The family expresses their sincere gratitude to Hosparus for the compassion and care of Michael.

STEFFEN DOROTHY ELIZABETH, 90, of Louisville, passed away Friday, May 15, 2015. She was a native of Chicago, IL daughter Austrian immigrants. She was a retired certi- ed Braille transcriber for the American Printing House for the Blind and also was a membe of 9 Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jacob and Elizabeth Tritthardt Steffen; and a brother, Art Steffen. She is survived by her brothers, Fred (Pat), Ken, and Robert Steffen; ve nieces; two nephews and many friends.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday a Ratterman Funeral Home, 3711 Lexington Road St. with burial in Cave Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to Righ to Life. STRONG WILSENA TOBIN, 74, passed away Wed. May 13, 2015. Survivors: husband, Charlie Strong; daughter, Lynn Strong; sons, Steven and Charles Strong; brother, Roscoe Tobin; sisters, Eldra Reeves, Mariethel Bailey, Sallie Jackson and a host of other relatives and friends.
